LISBON . PORTUGAL

This was complete renovation project in the hills of Sintra National Park to the north of Lisbon, Portugal in 2015. Lying derelict the building consisted of 3 separate small dwellings which Moxey reconfigured to make a single home. Many of the original features such as the typical Portuguese tiles and doors were retained and complimented by further reclaimed fixtures and materials sourced locally. Even the original rafters were upcycled to form balcony balustrades and garden pergolas. The overgrown garden was stripped back to reveal wonderful sea views and additional planning was obtained to build over the outhouse to give a space to relax and enjoy the views of the wild coast. Navigating the intricacies of Portuguese planning systems, language barriers with builders and tradesman and getting paperwork signed off were not enough to stop the project completing within 8 months.
